Good Wednesday evening. The forecast continues to highlight the potential for wild weather for the upcoming weekend. This has been advertised for the past few days and more updates will be coming over the next few days.
I wanted to touch on the repeat weather pattern the country seems to be stuck in.
The system coming in this weekend is similar in nature to two other ones that we’ve had to go through over the past 6 weeks or so. Remember the storm and wind maker on Halloween? It was accompanied by a nice mild up that was an island in a sea of cold. We had flakes about a week before that and we had snow on the ground not too long after it in early November.
The big Ohio Valley severe weather maker hit in the middle of November. That one also featured a few days of mild in a sea of cold. Several snow and ice events followed that up.
Getting the picture? December to date has been cold across Kentucky. Many areas are 1-3 degrees colder than normal (minus the terrible thermometer at Blue Grass Airport). The month has been cold nationwide…
To further illustrate the point I’m making… look where temps go after our weekend system moves through…
Those departures are in Celsius
Enjoy the evening and take care.
So going by the maps Chris has posted on temps, maybe the southeast dominate ridge relaxes a bit and some better snow chances are to come??
I still have a tag to fill so I’m gonna be in the woods this weekend and the end of next week. Don’t care what Ma Nature has in mind because the season is nearing an end and my freezer is empty.
That thermometer at Lexington is skewing the historical data towards warm in a big way. Lexington temperature records are no longer valid. Frankfort seems to be much more accurate.
🙂
“We had snow….”.. Not in Richmond. Yes it’s been nice to have some cold but when precipation cones it’s rain, sorry just facts I wish it was it was different maybe it will happen someday
You deserve to let some stream out. Bengals went back in a time bungle warp last game.
Obviously there is more than Richmond to Kentucky.
Ok we didnt have any snow to speak of either
if i remember correct back around the last of november into the 1st part of december, chris said that december would be more of a back and forth month…..he said we would have several cold shots that would be followed by warm shots with each one……although, i think he did say that kentucky may see a sub-zero day, just not sure if it was for december or if it was for all winter…..correct me if i am wrong mr. bailey.
A Kentucky Location had a sub zero low not too long ago. I believe it was in Meade County.
Celsius for those temps are warmer than Fahrenheit. Am I missing something as far as the significance of the maps? Kentucky at 28 (-2C) degrees does not seem significant considering last night was 27 degrees.
What am I missing? The pattern for central KY seems 95% rain and the main accumulation on the road is salt.
No, I am not being a smart aleck. Does CB think Celsius for those temps is colder than Fahrenheit? Just trying to understand is all.
For perspective, 0 = 32 degrees
The maps aren’t temps, they are departure from normal.
THAT makes more sense 🙂 So much for reading this on a phone.
I think this may be one of those simple things that I’m “over thinking”
But what’s the difference in departure from normal in F or C?
I mean, if it’s 10 degrees C below normal, or 10 degrees F below normal, what is the difference?
Because it is so European! Super Chic! We still will not get much snow, whatever it is. Word of the week:
Departures
The difference is that 1 degree (talking each unit) Celsius is about 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit. So if you are looking at 10 degrees (units) Celsius below normal you would be looking at 18 degrees (units) in Fahrenheit.
As for these maps it appears my area would be about 3 degrees Celsius or 5.4 degrees Fahrenheit below normal.
Of course maybe that’s not what you are asking but I figured I would put this anyway just in case.
Yes – that’s what I was asking and I get it now. Thanks for the explanation
Come on Bubba! Read!
in the 60’s on the fIrst day of winter is perfect , love the warm temps. Im praying that january will bring warmer tempts.
It will…..in Miami 😉
You and your sidekick Honestabe, plus your wild child Blowtorch can just hop back in that Volkswagen Van and peace out in the warmer climate of Florida 🙂
Plenty warm all year round in the Keys 🙂 You all can hang in the Jimmy Buffet Cheese Burger in Paradise restaurant!
I’ll buy them a round of Margaritas!
I’m with Barb on this one…..just looking on here praying Chris isn’t forecasting snow…..another thing….some of you act like its CB’s fault when it doesn’t snow….quit being so negative!
Haughty!
Sorry Barb, enjoy this warm up while it is here. Not going to have three years straight with warm temps and very little snow. Winter is about to start and Isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Spunky!
Lol. You guys leave Barb alone. At least she’s not praying for more flooding rain this time like she was a few days ago….. (guess there’s no reason to pray for it if it’s a sure thing).
I’m thinking barb is bill meck trolling?
