Good Wednesday evening. The forecast continues to highlight the potential for wild weather for the upcoming weekend. This has been advertised for the past few days and more updates will be coming over the next few days.

I wanted to touch on the repeat weather pattern the country seems to be stuck in.

The system coming in this weekend is similar in nature to two other ones that we’ve had to go through over the past 6 weeks or so. Remember the storm and wind maker on Halloween? It was accompanied by a nice mild up that was an island in a sea of cold. We had flakes about a week before that and we had snow on the ground not too long after it in early November.

The big Ohio Valley severe weather maker hit in the middle of November. That one also featured a few days of mild in a sea of cold. Several snow and ice events followed that up.

Getting the picture? December to date has been cold across Kentucky. Many areas are 1-3 degrees colder than normal (minus the terrible thermometer at Blue Grass Airport). The month has been cold nationwide…

To further illustrate the point I’m making… look where temps go after our weekend system moves through…GFS 2Those departures are in Celsius

Enjoy the evening and take care.
