Good Sunday everyone and thanks for dropping by the blog. The weekend is ending on a much different weather note as our days of Indian Summer are now long gone. We have replaced them with an air mass more typical of November. The biggest weather story of the week ahead is likely to be the increasing threat for a soaking rain for much of the state.
That threat is not for today as the showers we are seeing are very light and will be pushing out of the region from west to east. This is happening along a cold front that is ushering in MUCH cooler air that will keep our temps in the 50s for highs.
You can track today’s showers here…
This front will put the brakes on just to the east and south of us as low pressure develops across the deep south by Monday. This low will send some showers northward into our southern counties during the afternoon hours. This low continues to look stronger on the models meaning we are likely to see this storm move directly over our heads Tuesday. A track like that means widespread rains would become likely. Here is how the GFS sees it…
Honestly… how good does that look? We are getting toward the end of one of the driest falls on record and we desperately need something like that to happen. Keep your fingers crossed and break out the rain dance.
This storm will have a big impact on the Thursday system that looks to bring a quick shot of rain and snow showers along with a two day shot of chill.
We should moderate next weekend into early next week before the BIG chill tries to settle in for Thanksgiving weekend. The GFS Ensembles still look the part…
We will go more in depth on all that action in the upcoming week. In the meantime… it’s all about the prospects of a soaking rain a few days from now.
I will update as needed… have a great Sunday and take care.

Good………Let’s hope for a soaking!
I myself would like some sort of active weather around here. For the most part its been oppresively boring. We really need rain in this part of the state anyway.
Ahhh, a soaking rain would be like money falling from the sky at this point! Let’s hope the trends toward a stronger storm continues to hold! Our creeks, rivers, and lakes levels look abolutely SAD across most of the state.
I heard on GMA this morning that Minneapolis had 7.7 inches of snow from this storm, and that that was an all time record for Nov……Really?????? Minneapolis? That’s hard to believe!
They did. And they accually had 9 inches on the northwest side of town.
What was so shocking about that stat is that we’re talking about Minneapolis Minnesota. I would have thought past November’s in history would have given that city more snow than 7.7 inches from a single storm, but they said that was an all time record for Nov for that city…..I mean, in 1950 Lexington had over nine inches of snow in NOV……I think it was from a single storm but I’m not sure
That was the Thanksgiving Storm of 1950; my mother tells the story of not being able to leave the friends home that the family had gone over to for Thanksgiving Dinner as they were snowed in; still stands today as the most snow ever recorded on Thansksgivng in Nashville; I think Chris has already mentioned 1950 as an analog year
i am a snow lover all the way, and from the predictions, i’m gonna have a sad winter..:( wonder how accurate these predictions are, and if i should get my hopes up, or just hope for a snowier winter in 2012!!
Thanks Chris! Rainy day. I’ve been sleepy all day. lol
