Good Wednesday to one and all. Our run of Indian Summer weather rolls on across the state and has a few more days left before some changes this weekend that set us up for some exciting times ahead. While the weather this week is about as nice as you can possibly get… it is boring and making your friendly weather dude a little antsy to get to the upcoming pattern.

What else can we say about the weather through Friday? If you liked the weather you had the past few days, you are going to love today, Thursday and Friday. Highs will be around 70 with lows in the upper 30s and lower 40s. Clear skies rule during this time.

We will get a cold front to move through here Saturday and this will shake things up a bit. A broken line of showers and a possible rumble of thunder will scoot eastward during the day into Saturday night. Winds will increase as well and temps will decrease. Highs Saturday will range from the low and mid 50s central and west to low 60s east.

Colder air will continue to funnel in for Sunday as skies clear out. Highs will have a hard time getting out of the 40s and this will carry us into Monday. It is during Monday clouds will increase ahead of low pressure developing to our southwest. Light precipitation will break out later in the day and there is an outside chance this starts out as a touch of sleet or wet snow mixing in with the rain. The dry air in place ahead of the approaching precip shield suggests we have an outside shot of seeing that happen… especially in the north. The bigger news with this is it may be a widespread rain event… and a cold one at that… for much of the area.

Take a look at the GFS Ensembles…

If this low can wrap up a bit to our northeast… it would have a chance to pull down enough cold air for a change to some flakes as the precipitation tapers off.

There is a chance this system holds back a day or two before coming through here… and that is something to watch for.

Looking farther down the road toward the end of next week into Thanksgiving week… the pattern continues to look cold and likely wintry for a large part of the country. There could also be a serious discharge of arctic air trying to enter the country this time. The GFS Ensembles continue to show a cold pattern taking shape…

The Day 10 European Model seems to agree with this thinking…

So… afterย  we get through this quiet and nice weather week… we are likely to get in on a very wintry pattern for much of the country. This should really kick into high gear in the days leading up to Thanksgiving and should take us well into December.

Have a great Wednesday and take care.
