Good Saturday, everyone. The last weekend of the year us going out with a case of split personalities. We have awesome weather out there today, but Sunday will give us some of the ugly stuff. This half and half weekend is leading us into a wintry week ahead pattern.
Highs today will run from the upper 40s to low 50s for many area as clouds increase from the south. These clouds are ahead of a very moist system rolling out of the Gulf of Mexico and will bring rain our way later tonight into Sunday.
The drops will develop in southern Kentucky late this evening and spread northward from there. Heavy rainfall of 1″ + will be likely across southern and eastern parts of the state through Sunday. Here’s regional radar to track the action in from the south…
A big temperature plunge is coming behind a strong cold front that moves in Sunday evening and Sunday night. This will have a band of light snow and flurries coming in behind it. Winds will gust up and temps on Monday stay in the 20s for highs. Winds will make it feel even colder as a snow shower or a few flurries fly around.
This sets us up with a very cold pattern that will feature numerous disturbances diving in from the northwest through the rest of the week…
Each of these systems will be accompanied by a swath of light snow and flurries. One of them is going to try to become something more than just a disturbance moving through. The best shot of something like that happening would come later in the week.
The models have been taking turns on showing the Thursday system blowing up into a storm. The European Model takes a turn with the latest run…
Fun times ahead, my friends.
I will probably be out a lot today, so I may not get the chance to update until later tonight. Make it a great Saturday and take care.
sorry I see nothing here to get excited about. it appears that the small disturbances will be traveling to the north or over top of Northern Kentucky which probably means a cold rain.
the East Coast runner storm will likely not have any major impact in our part of the world.
clippers to the north and major storms to the south and east.
what a frustrating climate we live in.
Look at previous model data from this season and it shows the same thing a week out. Throw enough mud at the wall and some of it will stick. Eventually, it will snow.
A snow light at the end of the week tunnel, or another trend train?
not betting on any rain I bet on snow or nothing
No shortage of pessimist on this site!
lol. Very true, but after many years of disappointment after disappointment pessimism should be expected from most of us. 😉
I understand. Disappointments turn ppl sour.
I find your posting name quite ironic to point.
You would find it that way from your mindset. But I work in the fire service. Nothing to do with the weather. But nice try.
if you’re a fireman or fire inspector I thank you for your service.
I do not feel that Bubba was throwing a fireball at you.
no need start a wildfire on this site.
remember only you can prevent forest fires.
Quality stuff. Thank you
Still ironic 😉 I served in the Marines, so perhaps I should change to Grunt 🙂
BubbaGrunt… I guess it is already covered in a cryptic way.
thanks Chris….let’s see if we can get some snow down for snow on snow!
Need cold air in place to the Tenn./Ala. line with a low running up the west side of Appalachian Mtns. For ALL of KY to get a 6 plus snow fall.
Trends of KY winters for the past 20 Years…..over achieving clippers and the fence with snow on one side and rain on the other. Sometimes you can get into a sloppy mess of ice. Need a freak storm for KY to get good snow.
Go Cards!
Can’t figure out why one of the systems would decide to produce anything other than fluuries, but you have to have blind hope lol.
Look at all that moisture heading north for KY, that is an old school track for a snowstorm in KY, unfortunately we are all enrolled in the new school winters around here and another rain event with backside flurries is on the way ):
This. Unfortunately.
If it makes everyone feel better, I’m in NW Indiana, on holiday and they are asking why they can’t get the snows of old anymore as well!?!
They are calling for snow every day until the day after New Years Day though… I’ll let you know how that goes! 😉
