Good Saturday, everyone. The last weekend of the year us going out with a case of split personalities. We have awesome weather out there today, but Sunday will give us some of the ugly stuff. This half and half weekend is leading us into a wintry week ahead pattern.

Highs today will run from the upper 40s to low 50s for many area as clouds increase from the south. These clouds are ahead of a very moist system rolling out of the Gulf of Mexico and will bring rain our way later tonight into Sunday.

The drops will develop in southern Kentucky late this evening and spread northward from there. Heavy rainfall of 1″ + will be likely across southern and eastern parts of the state through Sunday. Here’s regional radar to track the action in from the south…

A big temperature plunge is coming behind a strong cold front that moves in Sunday evening and Sunday night. This will have a band of light snow and flurries coming in behind it. Winds will gust up and temps on Monday stay in the 20s for highs. Winds will make it feel even colder as a snow shower or a few flurries fly around.

This sets us up with a very cold pattern that will feature numerous disturbances diving in from the northwest through the rest of the week…

SpecialEach of these systems will be accompanied by a swath of light snow and flurries. One of them is going to try to become something more than just a disturbance moving through. The best shot of something like that happening would come later in the week.

The models have been taking turns on showing the Thursday system blowing up into a storm. The European Model takes a turn with the latest run…

Fun times ahead, my friends.

I will probably be out a lot today, so I may not get the chance to update until later tonight. Make it a great Saturday and take care.
