Good Saturday afternoon, gang. Clouds continue to roll into the region today and these clouds will bring rain to the region overnight into Sunday. This will give way to a very wintry pattern taking shape for the week ahead. It’s a pattern that is going to try to produce a decent system by Thursday.
Between now and then… we have some things to track. We know about the rain tomorrow that’s followed by a touch of light snow Sunday night. But, some models are hinting at a wave of low pressure bringing a swath of light snow to the south and east Monday Evening. The NAM is most aggressive…
Again, with so many little systems floating around, we will have to watch each of them to see what they hold for us. That’s the case through New Year’s Day.
The system coming in behind all this on Thursday continues to look like one that can develop into something much bigger around here and for the eastern half of the country.
The GFS has it… loses it… then finds it… then comes up with something in between. It’s in the in between phase with the last run…
As is… that it still a decent snow maker for the state. The other models are cranking out a much bigger system with a ton of arctic air coming in behind it. The Canadian Model…
Check out those thickness values by Friday morning. Wow… that would be some serious cold.
The latest European Model continues to show a strong storm system coming together…
I think it’s becoming very clear we will be dealing with a significant storm developing across our part of the world by Thursday. The exact impact on our weather will depend on many variables, including how much phasing takes place. That said… there is an increasing chance for a snowfall for most of the state during this time.
Enjoy the rest of your day and take care.
cool!
something to watch and hope for…
go CATS!!!
I like the vibe on the afternoon post. it sounds more positive than the previous post.
If it makes everyone feel better, I’m in NW Indiana, on holiday and they are asking why they can’t get the snows of old anymore as well!?!
They are calling for snow every day until the day after New Years Day though… I’ll let you know how that goes!
Seriously? I thought they did get them.
At least they get snow.
Yeah… Right?!? We are bummed when we get a dusting… they’re let down by six inches! Guess it’s all relative.
Clouds were thicker than originally thought this afternoon. Held the temp to 50–same as yesterday here in Lawrenceburg. No complaints though–another nice day in paradise!
Don’t really understand “thickness values” as they relate to cold.
Thickness bars in this case represent cold air anything less than 510 represents artic air Kentucky appears to be completely behind that line by Friday
Thanks for the explanation. Looks like then things get pretty chilly. Wonder if we can hit zero.
If this model holds true zero would be possible but the other models don’t seem to show as much cold
The average of the main models is almost always a better bet than choosing any specific one.
here is an interesting blog post on model reliability and such http://cliffmass.blogspot.com/2012/03/us-fallen-behind-in-numerical-weather.html
Good game between the Cats and Cards. Would not be a surprised to see them run into each other again in March.
Looks like coating and ankle biters coming up. Road dangerous type instead of the fun stuff. Instead of snowmen, the main players will probably be towmen. People especially drive silly in small snows. Word.
Dangerous drivers not roads 😉
True dat.
“Here comes the rain again, Falling on my a memory” love those lyrics, such a great song : ) hope everyone is having wonderful wet weekend, stay safe.
Meant to say, ” Falling on my head like a memory”
Rain is generally better than ice, so at least we avoid that.
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
The rain is for the Birds, But the CATS rule today!
CB, nice try, give it up, the snow isn’t happening buddy
Did you say something I didn’t hint so….
Think see you so silly I can’t spell right…
Christmas must be over so we are back to our old bad habits.
I think the Torch got a Jelly of the Month Club gift certificate and is venting. It is the gift that keeps on giving.

I hope you at least found some smarter people to copy weather ideas from. Your blowtorch people aren’t looking so “hot” right now.
Where’s the snow at pal? All I see is rain and a quick shot of cold. Prove me wrong, you can’t
Prove yourself right, you can’t. So, what’s your point?
The Rain is here and what about those Cats? I loved it.I would have like to have seen Chris watching it a nail biter.I wish all this rain coming in was snow.
Now that is what I’m talking about! Some good old smack talking and pushback on the blog 🙂 Please keep in mind that kids read the blog too, so please refrain from too much brutality 😉 …… 🙂
Does this mean no more Nickelback jokes? 🙁
Nickel back is the gift that keeps on giving. Just like the Jelly of the Month Club 🙂
Latest gfs has Thursday clipper WAY north of here. The Seth-Lord says no snow for you central Kentuckians muwhahahaha!
You forgot to add way east too. If you are going to be an official Dark Side member, you gotta gettit right!
As far as what models say ATM, I trust trust them like I do politicians….. Nuff said.
Papa, keep buying the hype. Just don’t cry like a toddler when the big model storms turns into rain.
Dont cry when the average high for January is closer to 40 than 57. 😉
Who cares, it won’t snow. Enjoy the 30s and 40s with more rumors and unsubstantiated hype.ill continue to get a kick out of you folks salivating over long range models that NEVER verify
You are getting VERY close to insulting your friendly weatherdude.
And he seemed so reconciliatory on Christmas Day. 😉 🙂
Good game. UK was the better team today. At least UL beat up on Miami.
