Good Sunday afternoon, weather weenies. Rain, rain go away and let old man winter come out and play. Ok… that’s cheesy but is what many cold and snow lovers are probably saying today. The good news is… the rain is going away and a change to winter comes in a few hours.
Our arctic front is sliding into western Kentucky this afternoon and temps will take a major tumble behind it. That rolls eastward this evening into tonight and will have a band of light snow and flurries overnight and early Monday…
Gusty winds, cold air and flurries dominate the weather into Monday.
The system coming behind that is showing up a little faster on the models. Many of them bring it in here as early as Wednesday night. Here’s the Canadian Model…
That’s a swath of snow and wind rolling across the region Thursday with snow showers and squalls wrapping in behind it Thursday evening and night. That’s also a lot of wind and a heck of an arctic blast into Friday.
The European Model is a bit stronger with the lead low, but has a similar idea…
If this system works like the above models suggest… accumulating snow would be a good possibility Thursday into Thursday night. I don’t think it would be anything more than a couple inches tops, unless the lead low comes a tad farther south. That’s still a possibility and one we will keep a close eye on.
There will be no rest in tracking systems as a significant blast of arctic air surges our way by late next weekend into the following week. This can develop another big system that will likely impact our weather. The models actually agree on the evolution of this setup…
This is the blast I have been talking about for more than a week. It has shown up regularly on the Ensembles and several of the operational models have been picking up on it as well. The latest European Model goes bonkers with the cold early the following week…
We can moan and complain all we want… but the January pattern is loaded and has some extreme options on the table.
Enjoy the rest of the day and take care.
cool stuff to consider!
thanks Chris.
let it snow!
thanks Chris for taking time out during football season to give us an update.
Thanks CB for all you do for us. Go Steelers!!!
go bengals….they are already in……steelers still need some help…..if steelers make it…..good luck to both teams in the playoffs and who knows, it may be steelers-bengals for game number 3 this season in a rubber match.
I would like to see the Steelers get in.
And good thing for the Bengals that Dalton had those 4 picks. Hopefully get those kinds of things out of the way before the playoffs.
Now, I just need the weather to win big. Would love to see the kids get a long break. And maybe a few days later on as well. Just no power outages or any major issues like that.
NW Indiana and Chicagoland is an absolute skating rink! Headed back to good’ole Kentucky on Tuesday… I’ll try and bring some snow with me!
Too early…the good Snow is going to be Wednesday night and early Thursday up there. We are headed that way in the morning. Can’t wait to see some REAL winter weather. Wind chills are supposed to be 20-30 below zero. I say bring it on!
Yeah… Cold air arrives tonight… I’ll wave at you on 65! Local mets and NWS called for snow up until the precip started to fall as freezing rain this morning… I’ve never seen advisories and warnings come out so fast!
Models trending warmer for this week is the latest from the NWS/Louisville, Thursday system now has the rain/snow word in it, we know what dominates in these parts when we here those two together, I know, I’m complaining right 😉
Why is anybody surprise. I saw this coming Sat. AM.
They’ll flip and they’ll flop… When this air makes it to you guys tomorrow and on… watch out! It’ll be hard to push around!
IIRC, I said this would turn out to be nothing but a COLD RAIN last week. It’s always warmer than forecasts suggest, never colder.
