Good Wednesday afternoon gang. I wanted to check in with an update on the increasing rains of today and the increasing prospects for snow showers later this week.

Rain will continue to increase today into tonight across much of the state with the heaviest rains across the south and east. As we said last night… there will be a sharp cutoff to the rains across the north and west. Track the rains here…

Radars

Looking ahead to the end of the week we find the forecast models coming back around to a much bigger and farther westward tracking storm in the east. The GFS has waved the white flag and now looks pretty good in terms of the strength and track of the storm…

I wonder if the models are done with the westward trend? Hmmm

What does that setup mean for us?

– We know about the rains today into early thursday.

– Wrap around rain and snow showers will develop Thursday night and Friday morning as northwesterly winds crank up.

– As colder air filters in Friday… the mix will change to snow showers and flurries by evening and these will continue into Saturday.

– Windy and cold weather will be noted Friday and Saturday with highs upper 30s and low 40s and wind chill indicies in the 20s at times. Nighttime lows into Saturday and Sunday mornings will tank into the 20-25 degree range.

– Can we get snow on the ground? I still think a coating is possible Friday night for areas that get in on the heaviest snow showers. Both the NAM and GFS snowfall maps are coming around to my line of thinking…

Ski country in the West Virginia mountains looks to do quite well with several inches likely.

Overall… this is the early season taste of winter the blog has been yapping about for several weeks now. Have a great rest of your Wednesday and take care.
