Good evening gang. Sometimes your friendly weather dude likes to point out how the NWS folks sometimes fail to see the big picture when sending out warnings and advisories that match up with surrounding offices.
This just looks silly…
Jackson decided to leave 3 counties in a Frost Advisory instead of a Freeze Warning thatĀ all theĀ surrounding counties are now under. Ummmm… how does that happen? I would love to know the rationale behind that one.
On a related note… anyone wanna bet that Mt. Sterling (Frost Advisory) checks in with a colder overnight low than Pikeville (Freeze Warning)?
Stay warm and take care.
Well, here is the rationale behind it.
I EXPECT SURFACE
TEMPERATURES TO TUMBLE AFTER SUNSET. I DO NOT THINK WE ARE GOING TO
SEE A WIDESPREAD FREEZE TONIGHT SINCE WE WILL STILL HAVE A TIGHT
PRESSURE GRADIENT OVER THE REGION. HOWEVER…THE SHELTERED VALLEYS
SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM FALLING BELOW FREEZING. WITH THIS IN
MIND…GOING TO HOIST A FREEZE WARNING FOR EVERYONE…EXCEPT THE
BLUEGRASS COUNTIES IN THE NORTHWEST (WHERE WINDS WILL HELP KEEP
TEMPERATURES JUST ABOVE FREEZING). RIDGE TOPS WILL LIKELY HOLD AROUND
40 IF NOT HIGHER…CREATING A NICE SPLIT BETWEEN THE RIDGES AND VALLEYS.
I can see a freeze warning from my house!!!!
I’m gonna roll with Chris on this one. I love it when he calls em out!
I will second that Chris. I will try to post my low temp in the AM, I will bet we hit low to mid to 20’s.
It’s 10:40 pm and 42 degrees and breezy outside…..I haven’t turned the heat on at all yet and it’s still 70 degrees in my house as I type this.
It is currently 44f at my house in Nicholasville but we have been down to 42f earlier this evening. It is almost midnight now and the wind is still blowing rather hard and we have a thick cloud cover. I don’t know if we will even match the 33f, my coldest recorded low, tonight.
It was 62 at 5 this morning in Huntington and here in Lawrence County we were 46. I see we didn’t even rate anytype of advisory but tend to think we should have. Currently sitting at 40 in Northern Lawrence County with clear skies and very little wind.
