Good Sunday everyone and thanks for making the Center your choice for all things Kentucky weather. After a hot and dry end to summer and start of fall… our weather pattern is about to crank it up over the next few days. What does that mean for you? R-A-I-N!!! That has been something in short supply of late and mother nature is going to change that up over the next few days.
As a matter of fact… the rains will likely come with some rounds of thunderstorms and the potential is lurking for some strong or severe storms with a possible squall line late Tuesday and early Wednesday. Winds are going to be a factor this week as well so it’s time to shake off your weather tracking rust and jump back into it here on the blog.
Today will feature a mix of clouds and sun with clouds increasing this afternoon from west to east. Winds will begin to pick up as well as temps soar back into the mid and upper 70s with an 80 possible if you get enough sun. Showers and thunderstorms will develop across western Kentucky later today and roll eastward tonight into Monday. You can see this progression on the NAM…
Locally heavy rains are a good bet for many areas and I cannot rule out a strong storm or two into Monday. You can track the shower and thunderstorm development here…
A very potent storm will be cranking up across the plains states over the next few days. This will be a wind machine for much of the central part of the country and those gusts will increase around here Tuesday ahead of an approaching cold front. We are likely to see sunshine and very warm temps for the bulk of Tuesday and this will help lead to an increase in instability. Combine that with some very good dynamics along our front and you have the making of what could be a significant squall line of showers and thunderstorms approaching from the west late Tuesday. Severe thunderstorms are possible from late Tuesday into early Wednesday. Look at how impressed the NAM is with this line of storms…
Outside of the threat for thunderstorms… take a look at the map on the right showing the NAM Rain Totals through Tuesday night. That looks great and let’s hope it works out that way. Unfortunately… the model brings us those high amounts as a byproduct of strong or severe storms.
Much chillier air will then move in for the end of the week into the start of Halloween Weekend.
For several days now… the blog has been asking for some nice pics of fall or anything halloween and you have not disappointed. Here we go with a few more.
Sondra from Louisville sent this pic of the end result of a pumpkin carving party…
Lisa caught some of the fall colors outside her house near Hazard…
If you have some cool fall and halloween pics… send them to chrisbaileyweather@yahoo.com and I will try to get them on the blog.
I will have updates as needed so be sure to check back. Have a great Sunday and take care.

this is a great chance to learn see the weather world here in KY upfront in person both from a academic/reserach view to the forecasting in meterology. MJ is presenting a radar training, and several of my professors from WKU will be giving talks.
I wish summer would let go I’m so ready for fall weather not 75 and 80 degree days.
Well, after looking back just a short time, I’ll take this over 90 any day.
🙂
Here comes the rain!
Chris I was on Pine Mountain Friday and I wish I had taken my camera it was breathtaking with trees changing.
Tornado reported on the ground just south of Nashville and moving northeast. Going to get close to where the EF-4 devestated areas just north of Murfreesboro not long ago. Wow…
The rain is evaporating the farther north it comes. On the radar rain over woodford, but no drops at all. I guess it’ll take a while before the comes falling down!!!!
rain that is! Sorry.
Rain Dome strikes again.
Yes,
It’s really quite ridiculous!
