Good Friday evening, folks. Rain is working eastward across the state this evening and will carry us into early Saturday. Heavy rain will be likely and a rumble of thunder will be possible. This action gets out of town early Saturday and will leave us with some nice stuff to follow.
What you guys want to know about is the return of winter. That comes next week as several systems impact our weather each will bring a shot of colder air than the one before it.
The European Model continues to insist on a storm system blowing across our region Monday night into Tuesday…
That would be a rain to snow situation before the precipitation pulls out of town during the afternoon and evening. Check out the shot of cold coming behind it…
There could be another system diving in behind this one by Tuesday night into Wednesday. That one is trying to dig more with each model run.
Another system dives in by the end of the week and will bring another snow threat our way. The air behind this one is even colder…
The pattern is in a reloading process and, yet, we are getting shots of cold and snow chances for next week. That speaks volumes about this winter in the United States.
What is this pattern evolving to? How about the threat of another harsh period of bitter cold later this month or into early February.
As I have said… we have lots of winter to go and the worst of the snow is still ahead of us.
Do you guys see how much I like you? My first day off work in forever and I am STILL here for ya. 🙂 I leave you with regional radar to track the rain into town…
Take care.
thanks Chris! we are already getting our stock pile of off ready for the next blast of cold. now step away from the computer and go enjoy your time off!
woah, I just read what I posted. that is supposed to read getting our stockpile of WOOD ready. not OFF! but what a hilarious typo that was. #blowtorch.
Thanks Chris ,missed you tonight doing the weather report:)!!!
You da man Mr. Bailey! Thanks for what you do.
Would MUCH rather have 3″ of snow on the ground at 25 than less than an inch at -7! You can keep that! *tosses bitter cold back*
Why isn’t the WKYT app 7 day forecast the same as what’s on TV? The forecasted temps aren’t even close on most days.
Thanks Chris, I like the sound of the upcoming week possibilities!
Chris,
Love to read your blog!! First thing every morning!! The catch is I live in Scott Co. Indiana!! You make weather interesting! Good job from someone in Indiana!!
Rain to snow equals rain to flurries. Enjoy the day off Mr. Bailey and here is hoping the worst of winter means more snow because so far all we have had south is a few cold days.
We love you back CB!
I live in new albany, in. I follow your blog every day. The detailed weather forecasts u send out daily are the most informative I have found anywhere. Thank u for all your hard work and dedication. Rich
Thanks Chris. After this last system, I’m not excited about rain to snow. The folks who got in on some of upslope action got a few inches. Not so in Central Kentucky. If these cold snaps include some clippers, then I will get excited. Sitting on about 3-4 inches of snow for the season in Lawrenceburg, which matches about what Lexington has recorded (3.6 inches).
Well we have seen that record cold spells does not guarantee a large amount of snow with it, so maybe moderate cold will do the trick this time??
Yeal I think that is our only chance.
Although, I think we our out of tricks.
Mother Nature sure has tricked us snow lovers lately, hopefully atleast one treat will come our way before March??
I’ve seen more than one forecast with multiple single digit lows next week.
I love your updates, but hate you don’t take time off. Look forward to your emails each morning. Sounds like another interesting week ahead. Thank you for all the great info!
You are a good man, Chris Bailey!!!
The radar looks just like it looked last weekend. Bunch of precip north of the river. Going to move into our area and across the state. Moving just like the last few systems that have moved through. Glad it is over night and not all day tomorrow.
Thanks CB for working the site on your off day.
For what it is worth. John Belski still thinks we will have above average snow fall here in the Lou. Area.
THINK SNOW!!!!
I am a huge snow lover so………….let It Snow 🙂
Just wanted to say THANKS for all you do….even on your days off;)
This pattern is unreal. Polar Vortex at it’s finest! I’m looking forward to tracking all the fun and games that lie ahead over the next few weeks!
SW Jefferson County in Louisville no power at all t-storm with incredible lightning non severe roar through knock power out in Valley Station no wind just heavy rain and a incredible lighting display.
Thanks for all that you do!
And I love the new WKYT commercial.
