Good Monday everyone and welcome to a brand new weather game. The torrid temp pattern we have been in for months has FINALLY been knocked out as a real deal fall pattern takes charge. This pattern is being ushered in by some rains today into Tuesday and some areas could get in on a nice soaker. We take a look at that and even throw in a few words about snow.

I mentioned over the weekend that this current setup is like a true winter storm. As with any storm like this… track is all important in determining how much rain your backyard gets. Central and eastern Kentucky stand to get the most rain and totals of great than an inch are likely for some areas. Our friends in the western half of the state wil see much lighter totals. You can track the rains here…

Temps the next few days will be nothing short of chilly for areas under clouds and rain. Highs can stay in the 50s for those areas!

The rains slowly begin to pull away later Tuesday into Tuesday night. This will set the stage for some decent weather coming up for the middle and end of the week as temps work back toward the 70s for highs for a couple of days. We will need to really keep an eye on what is going on across the southeastern states as another big low will try to crank up and work northward. This is likely to have tropical origins and will be moisture loaded and could come a bit farther west than the models are showing. If it does… rains could once again push back in here… especially in the east.

As that low moves offshore and up the east coast… the coldest air in a long time will dive southward into much of the eastern half of the country. Here’s the deal… if skies are clear next weekend into early the following week… an early season frost is not out of the question. Here is the European Model showing the big push of cold air on Sunday…

That is something to watch for as that chilly air means business. The tropics will need to be watched as well as something really getting together and coming out of the Gulf or Caribbean could play a factor in how all this plays out.

The GFS ensembles strongly agrees with this colder than normal pattern setting up shop and really settling in this weekend. Here is the temp departure centered on this coming Sunday…

If you want to look a little farther down the road into next week… the map doesn’t really change very much at all. This is centered on Thursday, October 7th…

If you want to talk about a total and abrupt pattern change… this is a textbook case as we go from record setting heat to well below normal temps in just a matter of a few days.

I have talked a lot over the past month about the colder than normal temps across much of Canada and that has extended across the pole into the other side of our globe. This has caused some early season snows in those areas and snowcover is now considered to be above normal as you can see on this map…

Again… if you are a fan of winter weather… you have got to like the early season buildup of snow across the northern hemisphere. Have a great Monday and take care.
