Good Sunday everyone. I will keep this post rather brief and hopefully have a full update coming your way later this afternoon or early evening. As hard as it may be to believe… much of the region is going to get in on a lot of rain over the next few days. Given how dry it has been for the past few months… that will be a great thing. However… there is a chance it is too much of a good thing for a few spots.

An upper level low is swinging in from the west today and will bring clouds and a shower or two. A surface low will crank up across the southern Appalachian Mountains and lift slowly northward across the eastern Ohio Valley Monday and Tuesday. This low will bring a ton of moisture with it and the heaviest rains will fall along the eastern facing slopes of the Appy Mountains.

To be honest… this is very much a setup one would see in the winter months and one that would put our region in the bullseye for a snowstorm. But… it is only September and it brings a very chilly rain and a lot of it. Here is what the latest GFS rainfall map looks like through Tuesday…

That is a general 1″-3″ of rain across the eastern half of the state and in a narrow swath across west central Kentucky. That would be in the comma head of the storm. Again… something you typically see with a winter storm.

Rains from the low will push in from south to north late today into this evening then wrap back westward later tonight and Monday. You can track the progress of the rains here…

Temps the next few days will be on the cool to even chilly side as highs Monday and Tuesday stay in the 60s. There is a shot for a few areas having a tough tome hitting the 60 degree mark.

Once the rains move out… the cool temps will remain and will likely get even cooler this coming weekend into next week. Timing of everything is up in the air because of possible tropical systems coming out of the caribbean into the gulf and up the east coast. Yes.. I am now thinking it could be more than one tropical system doing something like that over the next few weeks.

You can see the surge of chill here on the European Model for Friday…

I will update things later today. Have a great Sunday and take care.
