Good Friday everyone and welcome to a awesome start to the weekend. While today will feel great… summer temps are once again lurking to take up residence across the region for a little while. Yes… I am sick of the hot temps too so don’t shoot the messenger.

Let me start by saying a big thanks for all get well and happy birthday wishes. You guys rock and it goes to show why we have such a good weather family here on the blog. We continue to grow our weather family and we have a lot of exciting things to come here on the blog.

The showers and thunderstorms made their way across the state Friday and had a lot of holes in them across the central and western parts. Rains were much heavier across the east where many areas picked up better than a half inch of much needed moisture. The severe weather threat never materialized as most of the energy went to our north into Ohio. Much of the area my tv job covers was hard hit by the storms and I had a very long day at work. We got a great video of one of the tornadoes that touched down near Athens… not too far from the campus of Ohio University. Here is a screen shot i grabbed showing the devastating twister…

Here is some video from a different perspective of the twister before it drops from the sky… (WARNING MILD LANGUAGE)

We should feel VERY lucky here in good ol’ K-Y that those storms stayed just to our north as they were prolific tornado producers and caused tremendous damage.

Much cooler air has worked into the state today as highs will stay in the 70s across the eastern half of the commonwealth. The west will see readings into the lower 80s. Mostly sunny skies will be noted as a nice breeze stirs.

The weekend will see temps jump VERY quickly. Highs will soar into the low and mid 80s across the east on Saturday as the west heads toward 90. Sunday looks even warmer with the east in the mid and upper 80s with the central and west flirting with 90 or even a degree or two better.

A front will sag southward toward us Sunday night and Monday. This may knock thermometers back a few degrees across the north and east and may even bring a scattered shower or thunderstorm. That same front heads back to the north by Tuesday as more hot air floods in here. Temps will make another run toward 90 for a few days into the middle of next week ahead of a front that will drop in here by the end of the week.

I have alluded to some wild looking weather maps toward the end of the month across the eastern half of the country. The long range, and little trusted, GFS shows this…

Nice shot of cold air into the east as a hurricane rages in the Gulf. Believe it or not… a map like that is not that far fetched late this month into early October.

Speaking of Hurricanes… we have 3 in the Atlantic basin. and none of them will impact the United States…

Have a great Friday and take care.
