Good Saturday, everyone. We have sensational weather day upon us and your friendly weatherdude is going to take it easy for a change and I suggest you do too. Get outside and enjoy the great weather we have today, because winter comes fighting back in the days ahead.
I have a very short and to the point update for you and these two maps do most of the talking…
If you’re looking for an early start to spring… this simply is not your year. I still expect snow chances over the next few weeks and a storm or two is likely to blow up somewhere across the eastern part of the country during this time.
I will worry about all that after I take some time to enjoy the gorgeous weather we have out there today. After the countless hours of blogging and tv work this winter… I hope you can understand. 🙂
Have a good one and take care.
Great to hear that we will at least have a decent day tomorrow.I plan to open all the curtains and let the sunshine in.Maybe even raise a window or two if its warm enough.Cabin fever is about to get the best of me.Thank you Chris for all the time and effort you apply to keeping everyone informed.Truly hope you can have restful Saturday.I think you should take the whole weekend and do as little as possible. 🙂
Not really looking forward to more cold but I guess we have to take what nature gives us.
Your Twitter account has been working almost as hard as you’ve been, it deserves some down time as well. 😉
Rest up, you’ve more than earned it.
Thanks so much for keeping us so well informed – you’re the best! Have an awesome, relaxing day today!!!!
thanks Chris. we appreciate all you do for the community. enjoy the day and we’ll see ya’ on the snowy side!
Thanks Chris! Enjoy the day!!
Thanks Chris. If anyone deserves to enjoy today, it’s you! Thanks for everything you do to keep us safe and informed. As I have said any times, you are appreciated more than we can ever say! Enjoy the day everyone and make it a great Saturday!
Time to enjoy the day. Thanks for the hard work and updates. As long as it isn’t a repeat of March of 1960, I’ll be ok with it! 🙂
Your the Best now get some Rest.
Chris Mercer……what about March 1960.
March of 1960 was 5 degrees colder at Lexington, Louisville and Bowling Green than the 2nd coldest March ever. In Lexington, for instance, a normal March averages 45.5 degrees–March of 1960 was 29.7 degrees! Almost 16 degrees below normal. It was Bowling Green’s snowiest month on record–out of any month. Lexington had almost 18 inches of snow; Louisville 23 inches; Bowling Green 32 inches. Temps fell below zero on 3-4 occasions, and most of Kentucky had snow on the ground until the 24th of the month.
http://www.crh.noaa.gov/lmk/?n=top10winter Read #10. Impressive to say the least.
Thanks Chris! Enjoy the day. We are on the way to hike at Cumberland Falls on this amazing day!
Chris you are so cute. I always undress you with my eyes when you are on tv.
Little too much info…..:( has nothing to do with weather….
Take a break there, big guy. You’ve earned it.
Hey Chris,
Even the most awesome “weather dude” deserves some time off!!!
Missing you from Ashland, KY, but I can still stay informed with your weather blog…. THX for all you do.
Thanks Chris for all you do. It is very much appreciated. One question I have. I know that you can’t put a ton of confidence in a 30 day outlook, unless it is CB’s of course, but does any one have a 30 temperature outlook link? Just curious. I know you say no early spring this yes again, but do you at least expect seasonal averages by the first day of Spring and not below normal temperatures?
After you take it easy today can you tell us about the following.
GFS, Canadian, and Euro all have significant snow storm for Wednesday. Brutal cold returns just after. Larger weekend storm still showing.
Enjoy Chris, you have worked hard this winter, great weather day forsure today!
GO CATS!
After much lurking, I have been checking this blog for several years now, and although I find the word choices very biased towards weather, nasty for winter and gorgeous for spring, I must say I have learned so much from reading your break down of the weather across the region. I also enjoy reading the commentary from the regular blog followers. Although this is my first comment, I feel like I know many of you.
On a day where the comments really do reflect the community’s appreciation of your work, I thought I would chime in and say thank you as well.
(Oh, and bring on winter! Spring has April to wow us, and it will be all the sweeter for the wait.)
Chris, get all the rest you can cause I have a feeling you’re gonna need it for the spring severe weather season.
Better be careful Chris …I think u r getting hit on.but is terry a guy or a girl…lol
The models don’t just underestimate warm air in winter storm situations. Most forecasts today were for temps to top out in the Mid to Upper 50’s. Currently 63 in Louisville, 62 in Lawrenceburg, 60 in Lexington, 61 in Frankfort, and 63 in Bowling Green. Would not be surprised to see some Mid 60’s.
I agree with you mercer. Any indication of warmer weather has exceeded what the models have put out this year. With the sun position this time of year and with the models struggles up to this point I would expect thing things to be a tad warmer than expected. At least I hope they will. Today has been great.
Looks like to be the real cold won’t be as long lived as other ones, should moderate back by early weekend or so
Great day to finish taking down my Xmas lights. Yea I one of those guys! Hey it has been cold and snowy and I did I not turn them on!
Wish we could at least get an update on the mid week storm. Even if it is one map with LOOK AT THIS!! As the title! C’mon CB rest time is over!
I still have my up sometimes I turn my on and made believe it’s still December and Santa on is way..lol
Thanks Chris so much for all you do and the time you put in for us.It was a beautiful Day.I too would like to know your thoughts on a Weds.Snow system, have been hearing alot of talk about it.I hope everyone has a great evening.
