Good afternoon, gang. We actually have temps in the 60s and snow showing up across the state right now. Much colder air continues to pour into the state from the north and is bringing that band of light snow with it. That band sinks southward into the evening hours and may bring a rooftop coating for some.
As advertised for a while here, winter is coming back and will hang tough into the first half of March. Colder than normal temperatures are a given, but what about the snow chances. I see several lining up during this time and the worry is for one or two of them to ramp up into something much bigger.
The first system rolls in later Tuesday into early Wednesday and may bring some snow to town. Here’s the NAM…
The European as a similar look of light snow during this time…
The same run of the European Model shows systems lined up in the southern stream as cold air continues to dominate the overall pattern.
March 5th…
Spring is soooo overrated. That’s what I’m telling myself at the moment.
Take care.
The Euro has been the best in the long range category. Looks like some crazy weather ahead
And by the way, it’s currently snowing here
Is the precipitation on the radar reaching the ground? If so, rain, snow? http://tinyurl.com/q47sa4t
Dodger will believe any measurable snow when he sees it. And his vision is very good. Dodger!
Roger that.
Roger wilco,over and out.
Reports of snow really coming down near Covington.
Snowing in Louisville
If it were snowing Richmond ATM, each flake would need to have it’s own frozen bubble to stay frozen in.
Yeal a nice snow shower coming down right now. if the ground was not warm we’d probably received an inch.
Snow is coming down pretty good here.
Snow has started in Lawrenceburg. Temp is 35.
Snowing in Spencer County. Very wet snow and melting on impact.
Holy snow!
Big flakes in Frankfort, also snowing here to! 🙂
It is pouring the snow here in the Gardenside area of Lexington! Big, gorgeous flakes! It’s beautiful!!
Rain changed to snow here in Woodford Co. about 15 minutes ago — still pouring snow, but nothing is sticking yet.
Like everyone’s saying, HUGE flakes coming down at a decent clip in south Lexington.
65 degrees currently in Middlesboro. We reached 68 today. I wish this could continue….
Ground covered in SE Lex.
Quarter sized snow flakes in mercer county ( burgin). Beautiful! Went out and caught some on my tongue with the kiddos.
Snow snow go away. Don’t come back until i I say.
*excuse the typo
Wow! The biggest fakes I have ever seen in my life! Easily half dollar-size flakes and half an inch of snow in Lexington in the matter of minutes!
Our flakes in north Richmond are the smallest I have ecer seen. Atom size, since I can’t see em’ 😉 🙂 Like all winters in the past many years, funny what just a few miles can do.
I’m keepin’ my typo 🙂
I’m sure the flakes aren’t atomic size anymore are they? They’re the medium-est you’ve ecer seen?
I did not see a flake and being serious. We got ice specs and then just rain. This is not unusual, since same since 1998. The cut off from south Lexington to north Richmond is uncannily consistent.
Still at 44 degrees here in Pikeville. This will be interesting haha
Sleet bouncing off everything here in the neighborhood in Berea. No mention of ice or even the possibility of ice in either update today. WTF
It is snowing in northern Clay County.
Good ole rain here in knott co
Raining in northern Perry County.
The line of precip is weakening as it arrives in central TN. As most, only a few rain sprinkles in Nashville. Temps in a freefall, already down to 42 with strong winds adding to the wind chill.
The better half (wife) and I visited my folks in the Chattanooga/Cleveland TN area this weekend. Great wx yesterday and today. It was 72 🙂 in Chattanooga when we left late this afternoon.
Even though I’m a warm wx person that’s so ready for spring, I still feel a little for snow lovers in southern KY and parts of TN that have received little snow. Nashville has only measured a mere 1.7 inches so far. Areas like London KY have not had much, either.
This compares to areas to the south (all figures since July 2013):
Going down I-75
Knoxville: 11.9
Chattanooga: 8.4
Atlanta: 5 inches even
Traveling down I-65
Huntsville: 5.2
Birmingham: 5.1
These cities are above to well above where they normally would be this time of year.
