Good Saturday afternoon gang. A line of severe thunderstorms is pushing eastward across the state this evening and will likely bring damaging winds with it. For that reason… a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is now in effect for much of the state until midnight.
Here is a look at the watch outline and the individual warnings…
You can track the storms here..
I will have updates as needed co check back. I will also use Twitter for sending out warnings and rapid fire update and you can follow me @Kentuckyweather . These updates also show up in the top right hand corner of the blog.
Feel free to post updates of what the weather is doing where you live. Take care.

thanks for the update! and the quick txt alerts!!
LINE IS STARTING TO LOOK PRETTY IMPRESSIVE…
Chris, Do you see the storms continuing to gain strength as they head east or weaken out. I am in SE KY not under the watch and was curious as to what to expect.
Watching the radar as the storms cross the river. I’m wondering if there will be restrengthening once the storms cross over.
Anticipating a pretty good boomer for Shelbyville. Can’t wait. Got the camera locked and loaded!
should strengthen some more with decent lapse rates and a lot of instability.
TORNADO WARNING NORTHEAST OF LOUISVILLE…THESE STORMS ARE GETTING NASTY AFTER ALL…
THE LINE SEEMS TO BE WEAKENING JUST A BIT AT THE MOMENT…CURRENTLY NO WARNINGS IN KY. WANDER IF IT WILL WEAKEN MORE OR REGAIN STRENGTH?
I thought heat, humidity and outflow boundaries and steep lapse rates were “food” for storms, how can they be weakening?
I hope they hold together because we SO NEED some rain here.
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNINGS FOR WASHINGTON, MARION, SPENCER, SHELBY, AND NELSON COUNTIES!
NOT SURE. UPPER AIR SHEAR MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO PLAY IN THIS. THATS THE ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF, B/C IS IS SO HOT AND HUMID OTHERWISE…I WOULD THINK THESE STORMS WOULD GROW INTO SOME NICE BOOMERS…
AND AS SOON AS I SPOKE THE NEXT RADAR IMAGE SHOWS MUCH STRONGER STORMS…2 SEVERE TSTORM WARNINGS JUST OUT…
Lawrenceburg is about to get ROCKED! Lots of wind damage reported with this line. We are finally going to get some rain! NO stopping this squall line! Woohoo!!!!!! Tie your stuff down boys and girls…it’s about to get WilD!
Another storm another disappointment in the WKYT radar. Not only is the image on the site hard to see, the line is still shown as being in Louisville. It must be a good 45-60 minutes behind other radars :/
Anyways, looking forward to the rain, which it would come down slower and longer though.
I’m getting 40 MPH gusts and the line isn’t even in the county yet!
Ya really! I can’t believe the 5:54 observation at Bluegrass apt went up a degree from 4:54 with us being surrounded by storms. My yard is horrendous looking.. I just don’t want a down burst. I think they are awesome to watch but I have seen several and they scared the crap out of me
I sure hope people in downtown for the run are weather aware!
The rain rate in Anderson Co. right now is about 2 inches per hour. Wow.
Skies black…….Lots of heavy rain/some wind……But where is the thunder and lightning? I’ve yet to hear the first hint of thunder……How odd looking at the radar
Just heard one 🙂
I left my garage open for a bit, was 105F in there.
Sheets of rain falling.
Record a 1/2″ here in nw Lex
That’s about what I guestimated. I’m still amazed as hot as it’s been and that rainfall rate that the thunder and lightning wasn’t intense at all
The lightning is intense! GEEZ!
It must have really died out for NW LEX. Nearly no lightning or wind to speak of, just some average moderate rain. I bet it didn’t get wet too deep into the ground either and mostly ran off.
Getting black in Winchester. No rain yet though. All we got in town was a good light show from that last storm.
Oh, there’s a boom! Nice loud one.
Raining really hard in Richmond
Decent storm where I am here in Richmond. Almost severe wind, but not quite, I would estimate. ~50 MPH gust a couple of times, very heavy rain, and only a few lightning strikes. The lightning was almost non-existent, actually.
Still, the wind was strongest in this storm than any other storm we’ve had in this area this year, except for one other storm perhaps a couple of months ago.
Just want to add, too, that although I don’t think the wind here got above severe criteria in my neighborhood, it probably did get that gusty in other parts of town.
Has anyone confirmed that tornado north of Morehead??
I’m really wondering if the storms have died down enough to keep us from getting any severe thunderstorm watch in SE KY. Just curious…
Sprinkling in Lexington. Sun out and the sky is a deep yellow orange….very weird looking. However, the thunder is still around. Much more now than when it was pouring the rain.
I agree Renee, lots of lightning still going on even though the storms have passed
Ok as usual I got sent to moderation, LOTS of streak lightning here in Nicholasville, tried to agree with Renee lol. Weird stuff but i’m not complaining!
Sky is black, and wind is getting very strong. Alittle rain, but a Lot of lightning right now. Looks like wemay be gettingready for a pretty good storm here….will update as I can.
Just had t-storm warning issued…clouds have purple in them at places….very weird looking. Now lots of thunder, too. Nasty looking clouds. Lots of wind.
Really good storm here in Northern Pulaski County I’d guess 50 mph winds or so lots of lightning and very very heavy rain. Got some good video of the storm as it came had two wall clouds.

video I took of the storm starting to arrive in southern Rowan County
Good video!
Can anyone tell me how to sign up for text alerts?
Hey CB, Coco at it again but pulls out the save. Go Reds. tied for first again.
Waiting to see if we get more than a sprinkle at my house
My rain gauge shows 2.5″ after the worst of the storm past around 10 PM. Flooded the basement first time this year.
I have sprinkles woohoo
Well maybe at least we will have cooler weather
Did you miss out again? It POURED here in town last night twice! we got just over 1″ of rain here in Bimble.
It poured here in Bimble last night right around 1″ of rain with those storms that came blowing through around midnight.
