Good Tuesday afternoon. What a gorgeous day it is out there across the commonwealth! Sunny skies and temps around 70 will combine to make this the best weather day of the year, so far. Don’t get too cozy with it because a HUGE change blows in on Wednesday.
That’s when we get a strong storm system to roll across the state. Rain and a few thunderstorms increase overnight and take us into early Wednesday. Winds will be very gusty and may reach 35-40mph at times. As the low passes… a rapid change to light snow and snow showers will be likely from west to east. Some light accumulations will be possible by Wednesday evening. That doesn’t look to be a big deal.
The temperature drop will be dramatic…
A 30 degree temperature drop in an hour or two is likely. The cold air will blast through the rest of the state during the afternoon hours. Temps will continue to fall through Thursday morning. Check out some of the numbers coming from the Hi-Res NAM
Wind chill numbers will be around 0 or below at times early Thursday.
As I’ve said… soak up what we have going on out there today. Make it a good one and take care.
It’s going to be an incredible temperature crash to say the least. 12z NAM amped up the backlash snow a bit for EKY – the storms to the north and east as well
Ryan what is it looking like for morgan co?
My work place has an informal picnic area, including a few picnic tables. Very nice day to have an outdoor lunch 🙂 ! First time we have been able to do this in a while. Looks like it will be sometime before we can eat outside again.
According to the SPC, any incoming t-storms might have some widely isolated damaging winds and some widely isolated large hail. A rather low twister threat, as there is limited shear in the atmosphere.
it’s only going to last one day …. Saturday – sunny and back up to 60, next week giving sun with temps 50s and 60s. don’t see anything wrong with a March like this.
Chris also said beginning Sunday it goes back winter.
not likely in se ky …. maybe other parts of the state …. we’ll stay in the 50s/60s all next week.
We are not in KY remember? 😉
But what if we beg the sun to stay ?
We’ve already seen 70’s this year. What about 80’s? Here are the first date of 80+ the past few years.
2013: April 9
2012: March 20
2011: April 10
2010: April 1
2009: April 24
What a day in frankfort, 70 and sunny, lovin life at the moment, even with this dramatic cold shift coming, atleast they are short lived now, spring is going win the battle from here on out!
Twitter is down. I’m not sure CB will survive if lasts too long.
I just want to go on the record saying I do NOT approve of this message. Just took the kids out to recess in this lovely sunny 70 degree day!
Best weather days of the year? Yes today is beautiful, but why is today better than other days? There seems to be a great trend towards weather bias in the forecasting community. Sunny and warm equals good. Clouded and cold equals bad. Why is such emphasis placed through this emotional filter? What would be wrong with a more heuristic approach? The complaints of not being able to go outside during winter months are perpetuated by this news cycle of good or bad weather. There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing, and apparently bad attitudes toward weather. I really enjoy this blog and this community, but I am baffled by the emotions people have towards something that we have no control over. (Read weather, not climate.)

Get out — for at least 30 minutes. The positive impact warm, sunny weather can have on mental health and mood are real, according to new research.

I’m sure there are plenty of others, but a quick google search brought up this one. It’s a proven fact that areas of warmth and sun have health benefits.
I appreciate your opinions on this weather thing and certainly don’t discount them.
We don’t have control over climate either.
Nor water, air, or soil quality. It’s all out of our hands.
Well we probably do, the evidence at large suggests it, but I am not so invested as to say I know this or, for that matter, much of anything else for certain.
70 degrees…OH Yeah!
btw, I’d be saying that any time of the year. Not just March.
March is looking a whole lot better than first thought. Good days are outnumbering the bad. A few cold days are normal for this time of year. Unlike last year when cold was the norm, the extended forecast at least has most days near normal or higher.
Overachieving temps in frankfort today, up to 74, morning forecast was 68, love when it does this in spring!
Sorry Chris I hope your call for colder than normal for the next few weeks Bust!
The most gorgeous day of the year so far! The EXTREMELY good news is that there won’t be any severe weather, which is rare to have a warm up and not have severe weather this time of year. (Of course there may be that rouge severe storm)
