Good Wednesday, everyone. We have a major change blowing in today and this will lead to all kinds of weather packed into a few hours. Our short-lived taste of spring comes to a crashing end as we go back toward a colder than normal pattern.
Here’s a breakdown of the day:
– Temps will start the day in the upper 50s and low 60s with showers and a few thunderstorms working through.
– A storm system rolls through the state and temps crash behind it. Readings will drop 30 degrees in about one hour as the front swings through.
– Afternoon temps will fall into the 30s and keep falling into the mid and upper 20s by early evening.
– Winds will be gusty and could top 40mph at times.
– As the cold moves in, a band of light snow will develop with snow showers into the evening. A light accumulation will be possible.
– Temps tonight will drop into the low and mid teens. Wind chill readings will make it feel near 0 at times.
– Highs Thursday will hit the mid and upper 30s with a mostly sunny sky.
I have you all set to track today’s crazy conditions. Let’s get after it:

Looking farther down the road… we have to keep a close eye on a system working in for Sunday and Monday. The Canadian and European Models show the potential for rain and snow…

Ugghhh
Slept with the windows open last night…that was a nice treat. I know will be awhile before we can do that again. Loved the weather yesterday and will love the twists of the weather today. I hope to see a few snowflakes. I am not a fan of rain, however, I realize there are lots of places begging for it so I can’t complain too much. Thanks again Chris for all you do!! I hope you get your 4 days off so you can rest and recoop. No one needs to work 24/7 all the time!!!
It was so warm last night. Felt like an early summer night to me.
Meh!!
Typical early spring weather nothing to see here.
I agree Andy. Temp swings in March are typical. Luckily March has turned out milder than predicted. It’s already running 10 degrees warmer than at this point last year (Knox Co). Still may not reach normal highs before the month is out, but it’s been a whole lot better than March 2013.
so agree …. been better than predicted in my book – the whole theory about wintry all month is out the door here. I believe London will see a 80 degree day in March, yesterday was so close with 78.
79 yesterday here in Nashville 😛 .
But currently 43, cloudy, and very windy 🙁 .
Nashville, like much of southeastern KY, got cheated on the snow this winter. Nashville only 1.5 inches since last fall. This is despite places to our south like Knoxville, Chattanooga, Huntsville, Birmingham, Atlanta getting relatively abundant snow. Go figure.
Originally from Southeastern KY here, but now live 30 miles east of Knoxville. Had three major snows over 3 inches, one being near 7. We did pretty well in East TN. Strange that southeast Ky saw heavier snow to their north AND south. Sometimes that’s how it happens, though. Annoying for sure.
I’m just gonna sit here in denial of this one :/ So ready for SPRING!
I take it snow will be negligible in eastern KY for this event…
Looks like most of the snow is up north…
Thanks Chris. Its hard to know how to dress for work today. I wore a light jacket but carried my heavy coat in with me as I suspect I will need it by days end. Also wore a shirt and sweater (which is burning me up at the moment). I am in and out all day so it makes it tough on days like this one. I hope that we can scoot by the weekend with a rain event, and the snow says bye bye until next winter. I guess we will see. wind is gusting, but not too bad yet. when tahe cold front gets closer, I imagine we will see the bigger, stronger gusts ahead of and behind the front.
Oh well, it IS hump day, and we will get through this one too. Hoping your four day weekend stays ON, Chris. That will mean no snow. the past two days have ruined me. I am more than ready for springtime! Have a GREAT Wednesday everyone, and thanks again Chris, for all you do to keep us informed.
Be fun to see how quick the cold can invade seky, if the rest of winter is any indication then the warm air will be slow to budge out.
Sky is downright ominous! Very dark for this time of day. Clouds are moving crazy fast and winds have picked up quickly since that line of showers/storms moved through. Very warm though, not too shabby temp-wise. I see snow up north on the radar, I wouldn’t mind any snow. If it’s gonna be cold, might as well snow.
Well look at the bright side at least its not snowing with 45mph wind gusts even though that would be kind of cool lol
62 mile hour wing recorded at ROLO MANOR
thats a huge wing 😉
looking at the Mesonet site i think you meant 26 since thats the peak windgust
No OLD SKOOL today. 😉
OLD SSKOOL wing/wind?
Well I like this wind and the cooler temps today.
At last check we’ve received 0.35″ of rain at the Campbell County mesonet site. I’ll take that and hope that is all we get as if we get any more precip we will get snow. The temp has dropped to 33 as of this typing.
Enjoyed yesterday’s touch of summer, even got a little sun on the face and arms doing yard work, hopefully the snow and cold days are few and far between, come on spring!
Snowing in Lexington! It was just 60° this morning, no jacket needed. But now, yes.
38 MPH gust here in my neighborhood with that line that just went through. You could really hear it roaring above though (I live in a relatively low-lying place compared to the rest of the area.)
Sleet in frankfort temp 37, yesterday, all my troubles seem so far away 🙁
Rained for about 5 mins here in knott co. Don’t look like much moisture out there
Crazy
60 when I started out this AM
Just had a flurry off Chinoe 1:49PM
Snow showers should blow up in SEKY once we get that nice cold air with the NW stream. Still think some lucky people could pick up a half inch of snow or more.
Heavy snow squall here in my area of Lexington reducing visibility, trying to accumulate very hard but struggling.
Just started snowing in Clay County!!!
