Good Sunday everyone and thanks for making the blog your source for Kentucky weather. Saturday pretty much turned out as expected with scattered showers and thunderstorms across the area. The on and off clouds and scattered boomers kept temps down again for a lot of folks. While we could see another stray shower or storm today… the first few days of August will be headlined by the heat and humidity.
The weak low pressure that scooted just to our south Saturday will be hanging around the mid atlantic states today. This will throw back enough moisture to crank out a scattered shower or storm with the greatest threat being across the east. Here is a scaled back radar tracker…
Let’s talk a bit about the heat that is coming our way. Highs today will range from the mid and upper 80s in the east to the upper 90s in the west. The real deal heat will be coming in here for the first half of the new week as readings likely head toward the lower 90s for much of the eastern half of the state. High humidity levels will make it feel even hotter than that. You now the routine by now. ![]()
The western half of the state is likely to flirt with 100 degrees for the next 3 or 4 days. I am thinking several cities will likely top the century mark before all is said and done as the ground in this part of the state is bone dry which will allow for the sun’s energy to all go toward heating up the air. For our rapidly increasing amount of Louisville bloggers… I am thinking the hot thermometer there can make a run at 100 on Tuesday.
But the second half of Wednesday… some showers and thunderstorms will try to help us out and some of these may hang tough, on and off, into the end of the week. A cold front will also try to move through here by Friday night or early Saturday and bring some cooler temps. The European shows this well by Saturday…

You will also notice some very chilly air up in Canada on that map. Here is hoping we can tap some of that SOON!! ![]()
Day 2 of our “Man Verses Computer” challenge didn’t bring the drama that day 1 brought when the NWS part of “team man” joined forces with the dark side of the the computer world. Now its up to mother nature to sort through the forecasts that were put forth last Thursday for a 6 day period that started Friday and runs through this coming Wednesday. If you are playing along at home… here are the results so far…
Lexington
GFS Raw GFS MOS NWS ME Actual
Friday: 87 87 87 83 83
Saturday: 89 90 88 84 84

“Team Man” is off to a heck of a start but never underestimate the half man/half computer team as this thing is far from over with. ![]()
I will have updates as needed so check back with us. Have a great Sunday and take care.
So, let me see if I understand the man vs computer thing.
You, Chris Bailey, just pull your temperatures out of thin air?
You don’t rely on anything other than gut instinct?
You sir, are amazing….
Good sunday morning, Chris. Well, all I can say about yesterday’s weather here is that you got our forecast spot on. We had rain early yesterday morning, and then the clouds helped keep temps in check for a big part of the day. Humidity was there, but overall temps were mid 80s. I’m rootin’ for the man in this one!
Cloudy and muggy here this morning. Temps are low 70s right now. Have a GREAT Sunday!
Want to send congrats out to the Parker’s Mill Volunteer Fire Dept, from Pulaski County. Their teams took first and second place in the firefighter olympics yesterday in Lousiville.
(My son in law is a member of that department.)
You are ding so well. Friday I had 83f at my house and yesterday I hit 85f.
During the July I averaged 89f(+3) at my house for highs and 69f(+3) for my lows with a combined average of 79f(+3).
I hope we can get into some of that cooler weather soon as well.
Jake
I smell sarcasm in the first post, so I’d like to offer a sincere counter…Chris Bailey is the Chuck Norris of meteorology; the weather waits for his forecast to see what its supposed to do!
Thanks Wow! But I pull the forecast straight out of a Magic 8 Ball and not thin air. Get it straight. 😉
On a serious note… if you are going to be sarcastic and challenge my forecasting methods. Why even bother to read what I have to say?
Couldn’t have said it better myself Chris! Great reply. Thank you for the wonderful job you do. I appreciate it more than you will ever know.
Chirs is smart enough not to swallow the gfs kool aid of 100-105 temps with heat index values of 115 later this week for lex. His and nws now look fairly close to what the euro has for temps although a degree or two cooler which factors in a decent amount of soil mositure and vegitation. If we were in drought say Aug 07 then the gfs would not be far off most likely. His forecast thinking is sound and will likely beat the gfs model this week.
Yes that was very condescending…So what made you feel threatened in such a way that you needed to take two minutes out of your life for a wee bit of lame sarcasm?
I love Your blog. I have been an amateur meterologist for many years. I live in New Albany,In., just a short distance east of Louisville. The way your blog is set up is the best. Keep up your great work. I check your blog each day. Thank you, Richard.
Thanks for this article. It’s just what I was searching for. I am always interested in this subject. Will bookmark it.
