Good Saturday everyone and welcome to the last day of July. We are coming off a VERY nice Friday that was everything the blog has been advertising for a while. Too bad it couldn’t last more than a day as a few showers and even a rumble of thunder will continue to pass through the region today.
The setup today is not one we would normally see this time of year with a weak low pressure dropping southeast across the lower Ohio Valley. That is something we see more in the winter than the dead of summer. This small little system will be a couple of showers or an isolated thunderstorm to our part of the world today with the highest chance being across the southern counties. The rains today won’t amount to a whole lot and you shouldn’t worry about it raining all day at your house. Track the SCATTERED showers and storms here…

With clouds and scattered showers and storms around today… temps are going to be on the pleasant side once again. Most areas should max out in the 80-85 degree range. That said… areas that get some repeat shower action may stay in the upper 70s. The far western counties will be the ones getting in on some heat today with 90 or better possible.
Today is yet another example of just how bad the GFS is. It has been beyond terrible this summer in terms of temps and… up until a day ago… TOTALLY missed today’s system rolling through here. But the temp forecasts coming from the GFS have been absurd and some of the same people keep taking them hook, line and sinker without ever bothering to see if those forecasts are verifying. That is nothing short of amazing to me and just shows you how some people in this field are only doing it to earn a paycheck!
Ok.. I will spare you the rant. ![]()
Looking farther down the road…
– Sunday can still see a scattered shower or thunderstorm going up. Temps will range from the 90s in the west to the mid and upper 80s in the east.
– Hot and humid weather returns in earnest for Monday and Tuesday. Temps will press toward 90 on Monday and into the lower 90s for Tuesday. This goes without saying… but western Kentucky will soar into the mid and upper 90s.
– Showers and thunderstorms will increase from the northwest for Wednesday and Thursday as a front settles toward the area from the north. This will knock the heat back down to our south and southwest.
I will have updates as needed so be sure to check back. Have a great Saturday and take care.
Well, Chris, you have been spot on this morning.Got up this morning to some steady rain falling. Looks like it might stick around for a bit.(an hour or so). We were close to your temp forecast yesterday, too. 85 here in Somerset. So, day one, by a wide margin, goes to man in the contest of man vs computer! (No big surprise)
the rain just now started here..nothing like a good cool, rainy saturday morning on the porch swing with a cup of coffee!!! 🙂
can anyone tell me if tg shuck still has his weather blog. i can’t access it anymore.

thanks so much shawon. greatly appreciated.
That’s exactly what I did this morning. I also woke up to rain, made my coffee and headed for my porch swing.
It feels wonderful outside this morning!
Chris is on facebook too. I wouldn’t trade KentuckyWeather.com for any other forecasts. Chris is so accurate, and he’s family now. 🙂
Amazing stat. for you: Despite only seeing 95 or higher on two days this month, our average temp. at my house is sitting at 79.2 degrees for the month. Wow…that’s crazy considering that we have still never seen any really HOT temps. here like we usually do. This just re-enforces what my profs. talked about in college which is that our low temps. are increasing while the high temps. are not.
WXMan,
What causes this? Is it the urbanization of the area? Climate change? What are your thoughts as to why our temps don’t fluctuate as much through the day/night, as opposed to the desert terrain of the inter-mountain west?
