Good Friday evening gang and thanks for checking out the blog. Our Man Verses Computer challenge we put forth Thursday took a few twists and turns on day one of the duel. The biggest twist was how the “man” team was quickly whittled to only me as the NWS folks let it be known early in the game… they were joining the dark side of the computer world.

Check out these direct quotes from the forecast discussions from the NWS offices in Louisville and Jackson from this morning…
NWS Louisville
“WILL SIDE WITH GFS MOS TDA FOR TEMPS”
NWS Jackson
“TEMPS SHOULD TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE DRIER AIRMASS AND WARM WELL INTO THE 80S… WITH
FORECAST HIGHS SIMILAR TO GFS MOS GUIDANCE.”
So… that left me all alone in my fight against the computers.
Either way… I am ready for the challenge and we now have day one in the books. Here are the forecast numbers as set forth in the challenge from Thursday…
Lexington
GFS Raw GFS MOS NWS ME
Friday: 87 87 87 83
Saturday: 89 90 88 84
Sunday: 95 94 90 88
Monday: 101 97 92 90
Tuesday: 100 97 93 92
Wednesday: 101 96 91 90
How did day one turn out? Here is the official Lexington climate report from the NWS in Louisville for today…
THE LEXINGTON KY CLIMATE SUMMARY FOR JULY 30 2010…
TEMPERATURE (F)
TODAY MAXIMUM 83 243 PM
So the other half of team “man” joins the dark side and team “man” takes day one. I will carry the flag by myself as I fight against the… now… half man half machine team…

Carry on my fellow humans! ![]()
Take care.
Out of curiosity I thought I’d go look up what ‘ol TG was thinking High Temps in LEX would be as of yesterday:
Fri – 85
Sat – 86
Sun – 89
Mon – 90
Tue – 92
Wed – 93
A shade warmer than Chris but definitely against the machines as well, as expected. 🙂
You’ve been watching those old Star Wars reruns on TV, haven’t you, CB?
Chris,
Aside from the late Brian Collins and Brad James, you are my favorite weatherman.
I just wanted to let you know that.
Have a great weekend everyone!
I like Man v. Food better LOL. 😉
Great work Team Man! We humans are behind you all the way!
Well I for one would LOVE more days like today I had my windows open and it was comfortable! LOVED IT!
Well, judging on Chris’s nailed forecast high temp for today, I’m assuming the GFS has a bit of a warm bias….either that, or it doesn’t take ground and soil moisture into account.
How can it? It can’t read anything into subsurface temperatures, can it?
This might be what Chris is latching onto…or I could be totally off the mark..
ecmwf( euro) only missed by 1 with 84.
