Good Friday everyone and welcome to a heck of a weather day across the state. We have been struggling through a rare hot and wet summer for most of the region. Much lower humidity levels and temps will be with us to start out the weekend as we get set to welcome in the month of August. That in itself is hard enough to believe… where has the summer gone?
A cold front worked across the region Thursday evening. You could feel the breeze kicking up as humidity levels started to drop. This will set the stage for very pleasant temps today as highs reach the lower 80s for much of central and eastern Kentucky. Out west… the ground is PARCHED and this will allow for temps to stay warm with upper 80s there.
Follow the thermometers from across the state here…

What do we do about the weekend? There is a heck of a model fight going on right now between the American run models like the NAM and GFS and the overseas models like the European and Canadian. The later models both show a weak low pressure moving in from the northwest on Saturday bringing showers and thunderstorms along for the ride. The NAM and GFS were showing something like this a few days ago and now basically show nothing. Being a red blooded American… I would love nothing more to side with our own models. I simply cannot do that as the Euro and Canadian have been showing the same thing with each and every run for several days now. And.. lets face it.. the European Model is the mack daddy model as it is superior to all others.
You can see how the two overseas models show the same exact thing for Saturday with the low diving in here…

Could you imagine if this were winter and we were facing this model battle? ![]()
I still cannot rule out a scattered storm on Sunday as low pressure develops to our east. This should help keep the real heat just to our west for one more day before it makes a more important run at us early next week. Temps should return to the 90s for a few days before thunderstorms move in toward mid week to keep the core of the heat from every getting in here.
By the way… be sure to check out the post below this one where man takes on the computers. It should make for some fun times in the days ahead. ![]()
Have a great Friday and take care.
Related to man vs. computer, one of the local TV WXR guys says it will be 94 on Tuesday and 95 on Wednesday in Cincinnati. No way that happens.
It feels wonderful out there today! Perfect!
Well, it’s not even lunchtime, it’s in the upper 70s, and there isn’t a cloud in the sky. I’d say that 83 degree prediction is making Chris a little nervous right out of the gate. 🙂
I can handle this weather. No humidity and it is only 79f here in Nicholasville right now, 15 minutes till 3. It did hit 81f at some point but I bet that still wasn’t hot.

Looks like Chris is going to be closest today!
I’ve said this before this summer….Chris predicted 14-22 days at 90* or better (worse?)…we certainly have had them! When will it moderate to a pleasant 80 or so and lower humidity? Gimme a break, PLEASE!!
Get your popcorn ready Bengal fans!!!
Fall weather and football!!!
It is cool to see how the different models play into the guesswork. Thanks for posting the theories and how you go about it.
