Good Saturday to one and all. It continues to shape up as a very warm and humid weekend with more in the way of scattered showers and thunderstorms across the state. The same pattern looks to continue into, at least, the first half of next week as the threat for storms may actually increase.
With a weak frontal boundary washing out across the area today… showers and thunderstorms should be a little more widespread than what we saw on Friday. A lot of moisture in the atmosphere means some heavy downpours will be likely to go along with a stronger storm or two.
Track all of the stormy action here…
Sunday will see a few scattered boomers as well before the action picks back up on Monday. As a matter of fact… storms may become pretty common across the region for Monday. There will be a small threat for some strong to severe storms and we will have to watch for the local high water threat as well.
Here is what the GFS looks like for Monday Afternoon
Anyway… that’s all I can give you crazy weather kids for now. I will update as needed so check back. Have a great Saturday and take care.
Looks like the Lexington area is finally going to get a nice storm. Not severe but still looks heavy, maybe it will be severe, I don’t know. I am just excited to get more rain! It is just now lightning pretty badly here in Nicholasvile. It looks like all of the Lexington area will get some. Yay!
U would think
But the way these storms pulse up and down and move in any given direction, you never know until it’s developing on top of you.
3:50 AM……..Raining sideways in torrents…..Lots of lightning (but only a couple of close strikes) here in northwest Lex…I have no way to estimate what the wind speed was when but it is moderately frightening at the moment
We are in Shelbyville and it looks like a bomb has gone off. One of our very well established trumpet vines was BLOWN OFF of our fence. My laundry room windows were blown in and the chairs in my backyard have been blown ALL OVER. It was a VERY VERY impressive storm.
Down pour in Pikeville right now I think some hail is falling too.
Hot and humid just north of Hazard.
Thanks Chris.
Lots of factors coming together for strong storms in and around the area today, but there’s some sort of forcing missing, because there’s not even a slight risk for severe weather in the area today by the SPC….
Anyone care to explain exactly what’s missing in the formula?
The lightning here in Nicholasville for the first and second round was very impressive. The second round was the loudest and woke me. The rain gauge only recorded .43″ but I have to wonder with the way it was coming down if it were not more. The rain was blowing almost sideways at points.
I hope we do get more today.
The first round in Winchester was nothing short of amazing last night. There was no break in the thunder for at least 20 or 30 minutes, just one continuous roar. The lightning was extremely bright and like a strobe light. Picked up little over an inch from the two rounds of storms.
Is Shelbyville about to get nailed again?
Accu Weather, Weather Channel, and 27 First Alert Radar shows possible storms heading towards Lexington out of Indiana. Yet, local radars show nothing. Second weekend in a row where the radars are all over the place. What gives???
south lexington may be in the path of this storm
be ready in frankfort for this storm.
I THINKS SOUTHWEST LEX AND NORTHERN JESSAMINE CO ARE IN THE PRIME ZONE FOR THIS STORM….THIS THING IS UGLY LOOKING ON THE RADAR…
SKIES ARE DARK TO THE NORTH IN SOUTH LEX AND THE WIND HAS CERTAINLY PICKED UP…
ACTUALLY I TAKE BACK MY PREV COMMENT. IT LOOKS LIKE SOUTHERN JESSAMINE AND INTO GARRAD CO MIGHT BE IN THE TARGET AREA AFTER LOOKING AT THE LATEST RADAR IMAGE. PINNING DOWN A STORM LIKE THAT IS LIKE NAILING JELL-0 TO THE WALL…
I’m in southeast Lexington in Richmond Road and Man O War subdivision. Starting to look like main cell may curve to our west. At least all the radars are starting to get their acts together:)
It seems to be developing further east and not showing on radar. Thunder is currently outside my door here in Georgetown.
That is a nasty looking storm on radar..
storm making a left hook into spencer county. staying west of lexington area.
