Good Thursday everyone and welcome to an old fashioned steam bath. The heat and humidity will really build in for the next couple of days before we see showers and thunderstorms on the increase as we kick off the weekend.
In terms of the temps today… lower 90s appear to be a pretty good bet and some areas MAY squeeze out a middle 90 degree high temp. Factor in the humidity levels and the heat index may reach 100 in a few spots… especially the farther west you live. You can track the heat index (feel like temp) here…
You can also check out the high temps for the day right here…
Tonight will be VERY muggy as temps only settle down into the middle 70s for lows. That will set us up for another steamy day Friday as temps head toward the lower 90s once again. The difference for Friday will come in the afternoon and evening hours when some scattered thunderstorms go up ahead of a cold front moving in from the northwest.
The greatest concentration of showers and storms will be Friday night into Saturday. With a lot of moisture available… heavy rains will again be likely with this setup and we may even fire up a strong storm or two. Here is how the GFS looks for Saturday…
Saturday Morning
Saturday Afternoon
Hot and Humid weather will try to build back in at different times next week. The threat for showers and thunderstorms will be on and off during the week to try to knock the temps back down after a day or two run. The core of the heat will be across the western half of the country… but that doesn’t mean we will be on the cool side of things!
Have a great day and take care.
Thank you Chris. I hope everyone’s air conditioning holds up today.
Chris, they issue heat advisories all the way around the bluegrass, but never here, its hotter here around lex, cause of the asphalt jungle/heat island effect, why is that?? it always feels cooler out in the country, the parking lot of my work is 134 degrees already
thanks for the updates!!.. The heat wont be as bad as long as we can get some off and on rains along the way to keep things from dying out..
I don’t like the heat myself but I dont think this year has been too bad….(yet) we still have hot months to come. Looking forward to fall, but mostly I’m just ready for some FOOTBALL!!!!!! 🙂
I think there is still a lot of moisture in the ground around here and that is going to keep us from hitting that 97 degree forecast the NWS originally had for us today. Low 90s at best today it looks. Which is OK with me!
Although this native Floridian loves the heat, it did take my breath away when I stepped outside this morning. I much prefer this over snow and ice though! Fall is nice, but knowing winter is around the corner is depressing.
I bet Louisville hits 97. It’s 94 there now.
I wonder if there’s any chance the storms that have fired up in Northern/Western Indiana get in here before dark?
I doubt that complex of storms will affect central Kentucky. I wish it would, but, it’s very doubtful. 🙁
Looks like your wish is coming true…if it makes it across the Ohio River.
