Good Monday and welcome to a new work week. Our new week will be starting out on a rather stormy note as rounds of showers and thunderstorms will roll across the state through Wednesday. With a lot of moisture available for these storms to work with… heavy rains will be likely. There is also the threat for some strong or severe storms.
Today is likely to feature, at least, a couple of waves of showers and thunderstorms. If we can get some sunshine in between… a few of the storms will be on the strong side. The potential exists for torrential rains from these storms and this may cause some local flash flooding issues today.
You can track all the action here…
As mentioned… their is the chance we get in on some severe weather today. Here is the latest from the Storm Prediction Center for today ….
That bring us to Tuesday and the potential for a big time cluster of heavy rain producing storms to form to our west and come rolling eastward across the region. For days now… the European Model has been all over this while the NAM and GFS both had serious issues from convective feedback. The GFS has tried showing something close to the Euro at times… but the latest run has the storm complex more into Tennessee sliding just to our south. The NAM has now sided with the European and shows this complex rolling along and south of Interstate 64. In doing so.. the model is spitting out some impressive rain totals through Tuesday night…
I will have updates through the day as needed so be sure to check back. Have a great Monday and take care.
One of my co-workers told me that you may be coming to our high school some time this year. I believe the teachers will probably be more excited than the students. I will probably have to get a sub for that day so I can sit in on your presentation. 🙂
Looks like the storm complex did the old western KY split by the looks at the 2:45 AM radar. Not sure what has changed but my allergies went through the roof this weekend.
Mine did too. Had to pop a Zyrtec-D last night.
I woke up around 5:30 this morning to
thunder and heavy rain. (just north of Hazard)
A meth lab blowing up?
we’ve had several rounds of rain this morning here in knox co. as well, currently getting a heavy shower at 8:45 am.. it sure is a welcome, welcome sight!!…the grass is finally getting green again… 🙂
HaHa, You’re too funny.. (rolls eyes)
No, just jury selection in the Sypher/Pitino trial.
looks like us folks north of 64 ain’t getting squat!!! Sure looks cloudy enough for rain out there.
Rain missed us last nite. I’m liking the NAM up there for rainfall. Even though we got some decent rain Fri. the ground and grass were dry as a bone already yesterday.
Torrential rain here in north corbin
Ugh we don’t need that much rain, Chris. An inch would be ok by me. 🙂
cocnerned about the heat Thursday highs low to mid 90’s easy, if the ecmwf higher dewpoints verify could easily see heat index values near or above advisory levels of 105. 100-105 is more likely now.
I’m watching the front and the storms. New MCS for central Tennessee–the SPC does not feel the need to issue an additional watch. So the chance for strong storms tonight in this area may be near 0%……
Looks like the low pressure center that hooks up with this front is all the way out in Colorado….we might be dealing with the “chance” for storms for a while…
Jeff, I would not mind if we got 2 inches just north of Somerset where I live. We received about 3 tenths of an inch this AM. However, I have been in a relative drought situation in my locale so bring on the rain!!!
I grew up in southern california, a place that saw droughts a lot worse than anything Kentucky has dealt with the last few years.
