Good Thursday, everyone. Cool and windy weather has invaded the bluegrass state and will hang around for the next couple of days. That’s the bad news. The good news? The warmest air of the year is on the way as we head into next week.
Highs today will range from the upper 50s to low 60s. A mix of sun and clouds could spawn a shower or two during the afternoon hours. Your daily dose of tracking tools…
Current temperatures

A similar forecast looks to play out for Kentucky Oaks Day Friday. Derby Day looks to feature partly sunny skies with temps approaching the 70 degree mark. That should make for a nice day at Chuchill Downs.
The pattern for next week is one that takes on a summer look and feel…
Temperatures may surge well into the 80s for several days into the middle of the week…
Middle 80s are a decent bet with mainly dry conditions. I do think the pattern turns stormy as we head into the middle and end of May. Could severe weather season be sandwiched into a few week stretch similar to what we had back in May of 2004?
Enjoy the day and take care.

Remember May 30th 2004?
I wasn’t living in Ky in 2004.What happened May 30 2004?
Like the cool temps. Not looking forward to the hot ones.
It was a major severe weather day across all of Kentucky. Estill County alone was put under 3 or 4 separate Tornado Warnings. The weather team was on air for what seemed like 12 hours straight.
So you’re saying a sequence of a severe weather outbreak for a week-long stretch?
CB, we have different concepts of good and bad weather. Mid 80s is too much for me and cool highs in 60s and 70s are perfect. I am not looking forward to the warmest air of the season, the warmest we have already had was already a little too warm for my taste.
There is no such thing as bad weather, just different kinds of good weather
Ha. I agree. When I read the words, “The good new? The warmest air of the year,” I realized the true subjective nature of weather weeniness. Anyway. I am with you. I would love an entire summer in the 70s.
I know! Low 70s MAX is perfect for me…….I hate anything warmer…….Unless I was swimming all summer or something.
And May 2004 was V E R Y stormy! In fact, that entire year was very wet and stormy
Thanks Chris. Looking forward to a few drier days. And 80s sounds nice! Have a great Friday Eve, everyone!
Bring on the heat!!!!
I guess I’ll be the outlier along with “Coffeady” and say I’m looking forward to some 80’s. I’m in favor of any weather that isn’t snow and cold.
I am having trouble remembering the details of severe weather in May 2004. Was that when the tornado struck Masterson Station? I think Virgil was referring to the day Chris and TG were on the air all day long covering tornado warnings and not a single tornado touched down. It was a Sunday so I could watch.
I like snow, so I was happy this winter even if I would not exactly want 12 months of winter. But I’m miserable working outside in high heat and humidity. I would love 70s and low humidity all summer.
I remember the Masterson Station tornado. It was a short-lived but strong F3. At least one home only had a few interior wall remaining:

That tornado was on April 27 2004. Not sure I recall the May 30 2004 storms that Virgil was referring to.
I meant the tornado was May 27 2004, not April.
Already recorded a temp of 87 in the shade during the last bought of warm weather earlier this year. Given that the forecast temps were several degrees too low each day during that event, I wonder what that holds for this one?
I’m sure the air will be warm but crisp and dry, which is why there was no mention of humidity in the post. Ahem.
This concept was thrown around about wanting snow *during the winter*, so let me suggest a modification of…if you desire unseasonably warm and muggy weather *during the spring*, please move south at your earliest convenience.
I love a nice warm summer. You ain’t pushing me out of town. 🙂
Feels nice and comfortable out to me today
Let the tomato planting begin, frost danger is gone for this year, 80s not bad this time of year do to lower humidity levels!
Man this is bad again…first bad winter.. Then a wet spring. Now cool again then hot and storms.I’m trying very hard to get a decent garden in.can’t till a wet garden.let’s keep the warm weather that’s coming. I also have a pool to open.Chris …u can come swim…if u give us warm and just a bit of rain.Does that sound good?
P.S….I will even fire up the grill and feed u too….Lol
Who r u people who want 70″s weather ? R u 90 yrs old? Stay in the air conditioning then.I WANT POOL WEATHER….!!!!!
This warm wx person pretty much agrees with you. But it can be challenging when your spouse has opposite tastes. My better half (wife) loves snow skiing! And no, she’s not in her 90s 😉 .

I will never forget that day.
Nice Find
Looks like our next chance of severe wx will not be until perhaps the middle/late next week. Still very early, lots of time to see how that evolves. In the meantime, great wx! Will have to put up with some chilly nights (low to mid 40s here in Nashville), but a nice Kentucky Derby weekend as CB stated.

SPC has released a map of the tornado outbreak over the last few days [click here]. Including two fatalities from an EF3 in south central Tennessee. Also an EF2 twister in far western KY that first touched down south of the state line, no injuries.
Can’t forget the incredible flooding in the Florida panhandle and south Alabama. A couple of deaths there, including a motorist who drove into a flooded road and was swept away which is a grim reminder to Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
