Good Saturday, everyone. Severe storms rumble across Kentucky today, ushering in a MUCH better brand of air for the rest of the Labor Day weekend. Temps come way down for Sunday and Monday before we bounce back up for a few days.
Today’s storms come from a boundary dropping in from the north and northeast. This fires up clusters of strong to severe storms dropping in from the north. We may have one early today, followed by a steamy break, then more rounds of strong to severe storms rumble through later this afternoon and evening.
Damaging wind is a good bet with some of these storms. The Storm Prediction Center continues with a pretty good threat across much of the region today…
A few lingering showers and storms may hold tough across the southeast into Sunday as our temps come way, way down. Highs in the upper 70s to low 80s across the east with low and mid 80s west…
Labor Day itself will feature a mix of sun and clouds with temps in the 80s. There’s a weak disturbance showing up across east Tennessee that could spin a shower or two from southeast to northwest across the south…

Yesterday was the 4th day in a row for triple digit temperatures in the Bowling Green area, when my personal weather station recorded a high of 103.8°F at 1:00pm CDT. Thursday was the hottest of the four, reaching 105.1°F. These were by far the highest temperature reported by my PWS since it was first installed in 2017. Yesterday was also the 17th day in a row without rain for my area, and this plus the prolonged heat are why burn bans have been instituted in Warren County, along with other counties in the region. Local forecasts say that there is a 50 percent chance for rain today, but I don’t believe that we’ll pick up anything measurable today, and after today, the long-range forecasts show little to no chance for precipitation.
I’ve had all I can take of oppressive heat and bone dry conditions. I’ve learned over the years that ranting about the weather usually has no effect, but it sure feels good when I do say it!
